Kornelius Paede is a dramaturg, librettist and musicologist from Augsburg (Germany), currently employed as an opera dramaturg at the Opera Halle in Halle (Saale). He studied musicology and German literature in Würzburg and music theatre dramaturgy at the Theatre Academy August Everding in in Munich after an apprenticeship as an information technology management assistant and second chance education.
His work focuses largely on contemporary opera, and he often collaborates with other composers on work development. At the Academy of Arts Berlin, he developed a collaborative performance about miniatures in contemporary opera in 2014. He has given varoius lectures about music theatre at the Universities in Würzburg, Munich and Augsburg and published academic articles in this field. He gained experience at BR-KLASSIK, the Munich Biennale for Contemporary Music Theatre and was invited to the Kultursymposium Weimar of the Goethe Institute with his performance-collective Camilla 45. In 2017 he worked on the premiere of Patrick Schäfer’s opera Letzte Nacht with the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also the dramaturg of the German Lieder series Liederleben at the Munich Residence. In 2016, the German magazine Opernwelt recognised him as an aspiring opera dramaturg; in summer 2017 he particitated in the Opera Creation Workshop led by Katie Mitchell  at the Aix-en-Provence-Festival. Since august 2017 he works as a dramaturg at the Opera of Halle (Saale) where he was in charge of several productions dramaturgically and worked with directors such as Jochen Biganzoli, Florian Lutz, Michael v. zur Mühlen, Jochen Biganzoli, Tobias Kratzer and Paul-Georg Dittrich. He was also editorially responsible for a book about the award-winning open space stage „Raumbühne HETEROTOPIA“ of the Opera Halle at the german publishing house Theater der Zeit. In Summer 2018 director Viesturs Meikšāns and the Latvian festivals Homo Ludus und Valmiera Festival invited him as dramaturg of a premiere of the british composer Oliver C. Leith.
